Osmosis is a natural biological process. Pure water flows into a salt solution through a semipermeabable membrane to water allmost non-permeable to dissolved ions or molecules. The salt solution becomes diluted with the flow pure water.

By applying external pressure greater than the osmostic pressure to the salt solution, the pure water is driven out to flow across membrane. This is process of Reverse Osmosis (R.O). This principle isthe same that is used in all mineral water plants.
